SJ Berwin has become the latest firm to announce its salary increases, with a 16 per cent hike to its newly qualified (NQ) rate.
The £9,000 increase, up to £64,000 from £55,000, is in keeping with other City firms’ raises, such as Ashurst, which announced the same increase yesterday.
First-year trainees at SJ Berwin now receive £36,000, while salaries paid to associates with one year’s PQE has risen to £68,000.
Managing partner at SJ Berwin Ralph Cohen commented: “These increases are not out of the ordinary and they fit in with other firms, which have announced increases to salaries.”
Clifford Chance was the first City firm to kick off the salary announcements in April this year with its 15 per cent increase, taking one year’s PQE pay up to £66,000.
Linklaters followed the move swiftly with a competitive 14 per cent increase, reaching £69,000.
