Scottish commercial property firm Bell & Scott has hired Joan Devine (left) as its property litigation head.

She joins from DLA Piper, where she led the litigation and regulatory group. Devine has more than 20 years’ experience in commercial disputes, with particular expertise in insolvency and property litigation, and is recognised as a leading expert in the field of property litigation. Devine has acting for a broad range of commercial clients, including financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, landlords, tenants, owners of commercial property and secured lenders.
Bell & Scott managing partner Paul Jennings said: “The recruitment of Joan, an acclaimed and published property litigator, is a significant boost for Bell & Scott and one that will enhance further our service offering to clients.” Devine will join the firm’s Glasgow office on 18 April.
Herbert Smith has hired McGrigors tax partner Rupert Shiers as a partner in its London office. Shiers previously worked at Norton Rose in the firm’s London and Moscow offices.
Offshore firm Maples & Calder has strengthened its London office with the hire of corporate and finance senior associate Charlotte Lindsten from Arnold & Porter.

Newcastle firm Mincoffs has expanded its team with the appointment of two specialist solicitors. The new arrivals are wills, estates and tax specialist Louise Miller and employment lawyer Gillian Barlow. In addition, Hayley Anderson and Gwen Jones have been promoted to assistant solicitors in the firm’s commercial litigation and commercial property departments respectively.
Dickinson Dees has beefed up its Yorkshire private client team with the capture of Rowena Rogers as a solicitor in its wealth management department. Rogers arrives from Harrowells in York.
Burness has snared Morton Fraser head of litigation Ewan McIntyre as a partner in its dispute resolution unit. His recruitment will strengthen the Scottish firm’s energy and media offering, bringing particular expertise in the aviation, media, oil and gas and nuclear sectors.
Salans has promoted Warsaw corporate partner Pawel Grabowski to its partnership. Grabowski joined the firm in 2001 and will be the fifth partner in the firm’s Warsaw M&A/corporate team.
K&L Gates has hired a three-lawyer real estate team from Simmons & Simmons in a boost to its Paris office. The group is led by real estate funds partner Edouard Vitry, who is joined at his new firm by counsel Joanna Klat and associate Benjamin Chouai.
Laurent Ruessmann has rejoined the Brussels office of Crowell & Moring as a partner and head of the firm’s European trade group. Ruessmann has joined from Sidley Austin, where he was a founding partner of its Brussels office in 2003.
Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has hired Kirkland & Ellis partner Sean Patrick Maloney as a partner in its global finance group, based in New York. Maloney previously worked at Willkie Farr & Gallagher as a litigation associate and went on to serve as senior West Wing adviser to President Clinton from 1997 to 2000.

Clyde & Co has launched an Asian aviation finance practice following the arrival of counsel Paul Jebely, who joins from Ashurst, where he was a senior associate and head of aviation for Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Norton Rose oil and gas partner Alex Cull has relocated from Singapore to join Norton Rose Australia’s Perth office.
Proskauer Rose has expanded its global transactional and corporate practice with
the additions of partner Gene Buttrill and senior counsel Jay Tai in Hong Kong. Buttrill joins from DLA Piper, with Tai arriving from Ropes & Gray.
