Pinsent Masons’ joint London managing partner and national head of corporate has quit to join Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham.

Martin Lane, who was named Pinsents’ joint London managing partner alongside Martin Roberts in December 2004 following last year’s merger between legacy firms Pinsents and Masons, is leaving at the end of the month. He will be joining Kirkpatrick’s London office on 1 May.

Meanwhile, Lane took over the role of national head of corporate in January 2004 following the departure of his predecessor Alan Greenough who left to join White & Case’s City arm.

It is understood that Lane’s surprise resignation was triggered by his desire to concentrate on fee-earning.

Pinsents has appointed Gareth Edwards to succeed Lane as national corporate head. Edwards, who is currently London head of corporate counts entrepreneurs Luke Johnson and Hugh Osmond as clients.

The firm has not appointed a partner to replace Lane in his role as London managing partner.

Commenting on the move a Pinsents’ spokesperson said: “Martin Lane leaves with our best wishes and we thank him for his contribution.”
