What was your first ever job?
Petrol pump attendant at aged 14, followed by tyre fitter at ATS Midlands during university holidays.

What was your worst task as a trainee?
Reconstructing from old title deeds an application for registration of a title of a 200-acre site with more than 150 separate parcels of land, some of which were missing, some of which were not. Overall it was a full-time three-month project.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?
Ask the trainees.

What time do you usually leave the office?

What do you do at weekends?
Relax with the kids and play football.

What’s your favourite restaurant?
I have no favourite, but I particularly like Italian and Chinese food.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?
An accountant. I’m part-qualified through a foundation course.

Who was your mentor or role model?
No one particularly, but hopefully I picked up the best bits from all the principals and supervisors I’ve been involved with.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The variety of the work, the people I work with and helping clients to achieve their goals.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?
The hours and the demands it puts on your private life.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
Investing in a private company when I was not involved in the management. I won’t do that again.

What car(s) do you drive?
BMW 5 Series.

What book are you currently reading?
None. Reading for a living means I do other things with my spare time.

What’s on your CD player at the moment?
Robbie Williams, still remembering Knebworth from last year.

What’s your favourite children’s book?
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I can still remember reading it to my first daughter.
