A police officer has launched a £50,000 claim against the Metropolitan Police. Michael Chitty, of Redhill, Surrey, has issued a writ claiming damages for personal injuries and losses he said he suffered because of psychiatric affects resulting from the stress of his police duties between 1982 and 1992. He accuses the police of negligence and claims it failed to monitor, support, counsel and care for him during and after those duties.

Cyclist Robert Young, 47, of Worthing, is suing Express Foods Group, of Victoria Road, South Ruislip, and its lorry driver Dennis Bates, of Ewhurst, Surrey, over injuries he received when a lorry owned by Express and driven by Bates knocked him off his bicycle. The writ claims the lorry then ran over his legs and he underwent 10 operations as a result.

Nicholas and Toni Brown of Rochford, Essex, are suing their neighbours for £115,000 over subsidence they claim has been caused to their property by their neighbour's trees.

The London Ambulance Service is being sued by a patient who claims he was injured after being dropped from a stretcher. Andrew Fahey, of Wembley, Middlesex, accuses the service of negligence.

Brian Wright of Fareham is suing the Ministry of Defence. Wright claims he suffered exposure to noxious fumes during his work at the Gastro-Enterology Unit at the Royal Naval Hospital in Haslar, Gosport, between 1980 and 30 September 1994. He blames it on alleged negligence and breach of statutory duty by the MoD.

Nottingham businesswoman Amarjit Luther, who was left suffering back, neck and hip injuries after a car crash in 1993, has launched a claim against Margaret Pinder of Strelley, Nottingham, whose car she claims collided with her vehicle while she was stationary in traffic. Luther said that as a result of her injuries she has become dependent on others. It also alleges that her injuries have caused her lace-making business to decline.
