A new British Israel Law Association is being set up in London with the support of 70 lawyers who attended a meeting at the Law Society last week.
Berwin Leighton corporate finance partner Neville Eisenberg suggested the association because of increased business contact between the UK and Israel over the past two years.
“I've had quite a lot of contact with Israeli lawyers and the firm has a number of Israeli clients, so I've had a lot of contact with the country,” he said.
“There have been a number of trade missions to Israel by British businesses and lawyers have participated in that.”
Ann Frazer from the Law Society's international department, who helped organise the meeting, said: “The Tel Aviv district of the Israeli Bar said they would like to set up a counterpart association based in Israel.”
She added that the College of Law had attended the meeting and suggested offering its services to Israeli law schools.
The association will be officially launched on 9 September, with an AGM to elect office bearers on 7 October.
