Family law specialist McDaniel & Co has boosted its reputation with the hire of seasoned practitioner Lyn Rutherford, one of the North East’s most prominent experts in the area, as a consultant.

Until his retirement in 2008, Rutherford was head of family law at Dickinson Dees, a team he built up over some 30 years.
Brown Rudnick has hired corporate lawyer Massimo Galli as a partner in its London office. He joins from White & Case, where he was
White & Case has appointed John Benjamin as counsel in the London IP and IT group. He was previously an associate in Eversheds’ City office.
Irwin Mitchell has added partner Alex Barnes to its property team, working out of London and Birmingham. He was previously head of tax in the real estate team at Eversheds.
Sir Roger John Laugharne Thomas has been made president of the Queen’s Bench Division with effect from 3 October. He has been deputy head of criminal justice and vice-president of the Queen’s Bench Division since 2008. Thomas’s appointment follows the retirement of Sir Anthony May on 31 July.
Furley Page Solicitors has promoted real estate lawyer Liz Brady to the partnership. She joined the firm’s commercial property team in Canterbury in 2008.

Weightmans has muscled in on the Knutsford market with the hire of two lawyers in the Cheshire town. Richard Dobell joins the wills, trusts tax and probate team from Cobbetts in Manchester, while Brabners Chaffe Street lawyer Rachel Harper is the firm’s latest addition to the family team.
Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester firm Ward Hadaway has promoted nine lawyers to associate: Sara Acheson, Joanne Briggs, Kerri Kershaw, Kirsty Leonard, Julia Middleton, Gemma Sherbourne, Kerry Short, Neil Smith and Russell Ward.

Radiation litigators Ralph Johnson and Lynn Kerr McKay have joined King & Spalding’s energy and environmental practices as counsel in Washington DC. Both move from Blank Rome, where they were partners.
Susan Ervin has moved to Davis Polk & Wardwell from the Securities and Exchange Commission, where she was attorney fellow/senior adviser. The futures, commodities and derivatives lawyer joins Davis Polk as a partner.
Nixon Peabody has hired Tanya Tudor for its tax team. She joins as counsel in the San Francisco office from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, where she was a senior tax counsel.
