Reed Smith has bolstered its corporate finance practice by advising new client Global Oceanic Carriers (GOC) on its placing and admission to AIM. Douglas Rofe and Jeff Rodwell led the firm’s team, which secured the instruction from the shipping company following a referral from existing client New York Global. The instruction increases the number of IPOs Reed Smith has acted on this year to six, compared with 2004’s three. Berwin Leighton Paisner advised Collins Stewart as nominated adviser and broker to GOC. Allen & Overy partner Pervez Akhtar advised Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund (MEIF) on its first European wind farms acquisition from Eurowind International for e53m (£35.5m). The deal comprises wind farms in France and Sweden together with a right of first refusal to acquire all future Eurowind wind farm projects over the next 18 months. Watson Farley & Williams is advising new client Shanghai LNG Company, the Shenenergy-CNOOC Gas & Power joint venture, on the Shanghai liquid natural gas import terminal and sub-sea trunkline project. Addleshaw Goddard has acted for Admiral Taverns on its £70m acquisition of over 250 pubs from Avebury Taverns. The transaction doubles Admiral’s portfolio of pubs, following a previous acquisition of 241 establishments from Enterprise and a 155-pub disposal to County Estate Management. Partner Andrew Shufflebotham led the Addleshaws team. Avebury was advised by Taylor Wessing partners John Whitfield and Roger McDonald, while Howard Kennedy partner Martin Phillips acted for financiers Irish Nationwide Building Society.
