David Richards, the boss of Prodrive and Aston Martin, because he’s succeeded as both a sportsman and a businessman.

Being able to make a difference.

Being responsible for ethical conduct.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?
Underestimating myself – you don’t get a second chance.

The Surgeon’s Mate by Patrick O’Brian.

Cowboy Junkies and Bare Naked Ladies.

Swallows & Amazons by Arthur Ransome.

What’s the most exciting case you’ve worked on and why?
A House of Lords special educational needs case. My advice was ultimately vindicated after being dismissed in the lower courts.

If you were stranded on a desert island what two luxury items would you take?
An iPod and an electric toothbrush.

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?
Four days.

If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why?
Clint Eastwood, because he’s all action and few words.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with?
A football fan.
