Salans formalises Polish best friend relationship

Salans has boosted its reach into the Polish legal market with the signing of a relationship agreement with Krupa Srokosz Patryas in southern Poland.

The relationship gives Salans support in the industrial zones of Silesia and Malopolska, which are important centres for the production of cars and electronic goods.

Salans chairman Stephen Finch said: “The relationship is something we’ve had for some time.

“We know them and their quality. At this time we didn’t intend to open up a second office in Poland.”

Salans Poland managing partner Tomasz Dabrowski will oversee the relationship between the two firms.

Finch described it as a best friends arrangement rather than an exclusive partnership. But Salans and Krupa have integrated their administration systems and decided to sign a cooperation agreement.

“We wanted to formalise our relationship to cooperate on specific items, such as system support, tax issues and marketing matters,” said Finch. “There’s a bit of investment of time and money on this for things such as time recording systems. It’s more seamless for the client.”

Government plans to cap lawyer fees at 70 (£47.50) an hour in Poland could make that a risky investment.

Finch said: “It’s a very strange one that, and hopefully they’ll see sense. We’re keeping a very close eye on it. On that basis we’d be left with about one lawyer practising in Poland.”

The move is the second from Salans this year in Europe. In April the firm robbed Pinsent Masons of its Spanish alliance firm Masons Buxeda Menchén.
