Boxer Lennox Lewis faces High Court breach of contract accusations. A writ has been issued against him and Frank Maloney by Products of Far East based in St Helier, Jersey. It claims damages for breach of a written contract dated 19 February 1991. The writ does not specify the nature of the contract at the centre of the dispute.

The brother of an assistant shop manager from Uxbridge who died in a 1993 accident at work has launched a High Court compensation claim. Mahmood Hussain died aged 25 on 19 August 1993 when he fell from the top of a large rubbish skip onto concrete, according to the writ. Now his brother, Mansoor Hussain is suing Wickes, of 19-21 Mortimer Street, London W1.

Sales assistant Barbara Richards, 23, of Sevenoaks, Kent, who injured her back in a fall at work has issued a High Court writ claiming damages from Poundstretcher. The writ says the accident happened on 21 March 1993 as she walked on a concrete access ramp at the back of the company's store in Tonbridge High Street. It claims Richards is now unable to take long walks, cannot drive more than 10 miles without significant discomfort, cannot play sport and has difficulty with housework.

Two Ipswich women who bought property at Otley Bottom, Ipswich, to convert into a cattery are now suing Suffolk Coastal District Council. They accuse the council of failing to reveal that nearby land was ear-marked for a road-widening scheme.

A schoolgirl in Iver, Buckinghamshire, who broke her leg when classmates distracted her during a trampolining lesson has launched a compensation claim against Chalfont Community College Trust and Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust. Charlotte Vigor, 16, who is suing through her father Eric, claims that after the accident she needed four operations and has been left with permanent foot drop, clawed toes, gross muscle wastage and an unstable knee which often gives way. The writ says it is doubtful she will fulfil her ambition of becoming a vet.
