Software company Sungard is looking for a senior lawyer to run its Asia-Pacific legal team after revealing plans to grow and acquire technology companies in the region.

The general counsel position for Asia is a newly created role.

Howard Wallis, general counsel for Europe, the Middle East and Asia, currently oversees transactions in Asia. Last month he worked on the company’s acquisition of Singaporean software firm System Access for $75m (£39.55m).

Wallis told The Lawyer: “We’re recruiting a head for the Asia-Pacific legal team. We don’t really have a lawyer with the relevant M&A experience out there.

“We’re trying to help build out Asia more. We need someone outward looking who can cover China down to New Zealand and Australia.”

Currently only 5 per cent of Sungard’s $4bn (£2.12bn) revenue comes from the Asia-Pacific region.
