Mishcon de Reya is preparing to ramp up the work it is doing in connection with the Premier League inquiry once Lord Stevens has released his interim report into corruption in football transfers.

The Holborn firm has been working with the former commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and Quest, the forensic accounting company that has been handling the independent inquiry, since it began in March.

Mishcons’ partner Kas Nouroozi and associate Nick MacIver were retained at the outset to advise the inquiry on any matters that arose during its course. The inquiry is now expected to focus on specific transfers where fraudulent activity is suspected.

Naroozi said that if anything, Mishcons would be more heavily involved with the inquiry in this second stage. “We will now be looking at a filleted number of transfers,” he said. “Initially we were looking at all transfers but now we will be looking at the ones we are most interested in.”

Lord Stevens is expected to anounce his findings into the 362 transfers which took place between 1 January 2004 and 31 January 2006 at 4.30pm today (Monday 2 October). It is thought that some 60 transfers will require further investigation.
