Allen & Overy (A&O), Denton Wilde Sapte (DWS) and US firm Thompson & Knight have advised on a Sino-Indian $850m (£448.24m) energy joint venture. The venture, between China’s Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration, Production Corporation of China (SIPC) and India’s ONGC Videsh, involved the purchase of Colombian oil producer Omimex de Colombia. A&O advised Sinopec, led by Mitchell Silk, head of the firm’s new New York-based China practice group. Sinopec was advised on local law by Colombian firm Zuleta Acosta Suarez Ibarra Araque & Jaramillo Abogados and on off-shoring issues by Conyers Dill Pearman. DWS advised ONGC Videsh, led by Dubai-based energy and infrastructure partner Sean Korney. Colombian firm Brigard & Urrutia and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman advised ONGC Videsh on Colombian and US law respectively. Thompson & Knight advised Omimex, led by Houston partner Jerry Metcalf.
