RAC Legal Services is setting out to be a proactive voice campaigning on political and legal issues affecting both itself and its panel of law firms.
Led by its head of legal affairs Jonathan Gulliford, the RAC is launching a ‘law forum’, in which it and its 24-strong panel of external firms will produce regular reports on current issues.
The first report is expected to be on person-al injury, with other such issues to be tackled in the future.
Gulliford said the forum will meet three or four times a year to discuss issues affecting the market and that it will actively campaign and lobby.
“It’s actually to seize the initiative,” he explained. “We hope to drive intellectual debate.”
The idea behind the forum, Gulliford said, was that much of the discussion about personal injury, small claims and legal regulation is reactive and not proactive. He wants the forum to produce statements and reports that will push the debate forward and help both consumers and claimant lawyers.
The new venture comes on the back of the RAC’s extensive campaigning in support of the recommendations made by Sir David Clementi in his review of the regulation of the legal profession.
