Manchester firm George Davies Solicitors is strengthening its sports department with the hire of Davies Arnold Cooper (DAC) partner Gareth Williams.

Last year Williams picked up Olympic boxing star Amir Khan as a new client, guiding him through the media attention following his Olympic silver medal.

Williams will join George Davies tomorrow (3 May), where he will become the second dedicated sports law partner alongside senior partner John Hewison.

The firm has a longstanding relationship with the Professional Football Association and advises ice hockey, athletics, basketball, rugby union, rugby league, cricket, angling and golf clients.

Managing partner Helen Lusby said: “We’re looking to develop into all sorts of areas. Gareth fits in very well with the culture here.”

The firm also announced the promotion of three associates to partner: residential property head Ben Crouch, commercial property lawyer Paul Bibby and private client specialist Zahra Siddiqui will all be made up.
