Linklaters” class=”inline_image inline_image_left” src=”/pictures/web/images/16578_NickEastwellLinklaters90.jpg” />Linklaters stalwart Nick Eastwell has retired from the firm after 20 years as partner, leaving project finance partner Stuart Salt to take over as managing partner of Emerging Europe, Middle East and North Africa (EEMENA).
Eastwell’s decision calls time on a 27-year stint at Linklaters, during which time he held the positions of global capital markets head, chief of central and eastern Europe and head of international finance.
In 2007 Eastwell stood in the firm’s managing partner elections, which saw Asia head Simon Davies win the top job.
Davies said: “I’d like to thank Nick for his significant contribution to the firm over what has been a long and distinguished career at Linklaters.”
Eastwell will step down as EEMENA head at the end of April and leave the firm at the end of October.
Salt has been a partner at Linklaters since 1992.
The move comes as Linklaters implements a restructuring named Project New World, which will see more than 200 jobs go in London (29 January).
Eastwell could not be reached for comment.

Did he jump or was he pushed. I am sure he will re-emerge somewhere elase.
It is politics between him and Simon!
Nick is very nice guy and supportive. I believe he was pushed by Simon to leave the firm.
Most of his boys are also leaving the firm.
Nick is fantastic lawyer very charming gentleman!
All the best Nick and good bye!
Emerging markets head Eastwell quits Linklaters
It was well known in Linklaters that Simon Davies and Eastwell did not get on at all. Nick was head of EMEENA and yet didn’t have a place on the executive board. This is therefore far from suprising.
Nick will be greatly missed
Nick is one of the best lawyers in the market, an excellent manager and a true gentleman. Even his rivals in the Magic Circle liked him and clients adore him. I am sure that if he still wants to work he will be able to choose from a number of amazing opportunities. And, indeed, a lot of “his boys” have left or will leave. Which only leaves Linklaters the poorer and certainly much less fun. It certainly looks like another sign that Linklaters is going into a “New World”, though the colors of this world will probably be less intense, even if the numbers mayl look better
One of “the boys” from long ago…
I will actually break with the tradition of “The Lawyer” and will post under my own name.
For a relatively brief time, I was one of “the boys” while at Linklaters. Nick Eastwell is a true gentleman and a pioneer in the field. One of the things I liked the most about Nick was his dedication to his profession – and his dedication to his team. His love of sport is noted as well: whether it was indoor soccer (followed by a pint and a curry) after work, or a quick five mile run while travelling, Eastwell could (literally) run guys half his age into the ground. A better manager was never had. His presence will be missed.
