Quinn Emanuel recruits magic circle talent for London launchUS litigation powerhouse Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges has bolstered its new London presence with the hire of a trio of associates.

Matthew Bunting joins from Slaughter and May, Lucy Pert from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Audrius Zakarauskas from Holman Fenwick Willan.

Managing partner John Quinn said: “With the arrival of this team we are now in a position to take on and manage major pieces of complex litigation.

“This team certainly fits within our strategy to offer London litigants magic circle level talent for disputes that magic circle firms cannot take because of conflicts.”

Bunting, who has seven years post-qualification experience (PQE), joined Slaughter and May’s dispute resolution department from New Zealand firm Buddle Findlay. He is qualified as a solicitor advocate in the England and Wales and as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand.

Four year PQE Zakarauskas was a barrister in Holman Fenwick’s commercial litigation department, having originally trained at Brick Court Chambers.

Pert, who is also four years’ qualified, is qualified as a New York attorney and prior to joining Freshfields in 2007 worked for Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison.

Quinn Emanuel, which specialises in bringing litigation against major financial institutions, launched in London in April (www.thelawyer.com, 22 April) after hiring Kirkland & Ellis litigation partner Richard East. It has since added Marc Becker from Los Angeles firm Munger Tolles & Olson and Bingham McCutcheon silk Sue Prevezer QC to its partner headcount.
