Squire Sanders raids Coudert in Beijing push

Squire Sanders & Dempsey’s China practice has scooped a team from the Beijing office of Coudert Brothers.
The US firm has added US-qualified partners James Zimmerman and Sungo Shim and three associates to its Beijing office, taking the number of lawyers to eight.
Zimmerman advises on foreign inward investment matters in China, including joint ventures, liquidation and dissolution of investments, corporate, with particular focus on trade, and customs matters. Shim advises US, Middle Eastern, Korean and Chinese clients on China-related investments, especially in the telecoms sector.
Squire Sanders’ Beijing managing partner Daniel Roules said: “We were looking to expand our China practice for some time to support work from China and Japan and we’re delighted that this has now happened.”
Roules said that the firm is in the process of launching a new office in Shanghai and hopes that this will be achieved by the end of the year.
The move leaves Coudert with three partners and nine associates in Beijing.
