US firm Hunton & Williams' Poland office has won a major government contract relating to the “mass privatisation” of companies in the second round of the Polish government's National Investment Fund Programme. White & Case advised the government on the first round of privatisations, which put 500 companies worth approximately $2bn (£3.2bn) into the private sector. Lejb Fogelman, head of the Warsaw office of Hunton & Williams said this second round was “20 or 30 times bigger, covering all sectors of industry.” The firm will advise the government on drafting the legislation for the implementation of the privatisation programme. Fogelman claimed the prestige of the work was so high that the firm would be carrying out some of it on a “partially pro-bono” basis.
In a separate development in Poland, White & Case has lost Dr Greg Domanski, a securities consultant and leading Polish academic, to AA Legal Services, the law firm associated with Arthur Andersen. The firm is now known as Domanski Szubielska i Wspolnicy.
