DLA Piper strengthens Cologne with White & Case hires

DLA Piper has beefed up its international energy law practice with the addition of a partner and senior associate in Cologne.

Partner Michael Cieslarczyk joined the firm yesterday (2 June) from White & Case‘s Düsseldorf office, where he was also a partner. Associate Marek Dal-Canton, also from White & Case’s Düsseldorf office, joined as a senior associate.

Cieslarczyk spent the early part of his career in Clifford Chance‘s bank and stock exchange team in Frankfurt before moving to the firm’s energy law team in Düsseldorf in 2002. He moved across to White & Case two years later, playing a role in setting up the firm’s energy law team.

Cieslarczyk’s main area of expertise is energy contract law and emission trading and he has experience in long-term gas acquisition, import, transportation and transit contracts.

Dal-Canton focuses on the environmental aspects of energy law, especially renewable energy, power heat coupling and issues linked to emission trading.

The Cologne energy practice will form part of DLA Piper’s energy and water practice, which is headed by Birmingham-based partner Neil Upton.
