Clarke Willmott launches third raid on local rivals

Bristol-based Clarke Willmott has made its third raid on local rivals in a week, scooping the head of tax and estate planning at TLT Solicitors.

TLT partner Mary McCartney has confirmed she is to join Clarke Willmott just days after the firm announced it had landed property partner Greg Lovett and associate Oliver Smedley from Bevan Brittan and Burges Salmon respectively, as first reported on (27 June).

Her appointment also follows only weeks after Clarke Willmott’s Southampton office launched a private client practice with the hire of a three partner-strong team from Southampton’s Moore & Blatch (, 14 May 2007). Partners Jessica Wiltshire, Adrian Butterworth and Lee Young joined the firm accompanied by tax consultant Adrian Shipwright.

Clarke Willmott managing partner David Sedgwick said: “Private capital is a key area for us and one in which we are investing in all of the regions where we are based.”

Clarke Willmott itself fell victim to a raid by Wales and South East firm Morgan Cole recently, which opened in Bristol after hiring corporate partner Paul Hardman and corporate associate Mark Gilder (The Lawyer, 16 April 2007).
