The London Borough of Hackney has poached former Kensington and Chelsea legal chief Gifty Edila to head its team of in-house lawyers.
Edila was director of law and administration at Kensington for seven years, during which time she transformed the use of external law firms.
At Hackney, she replaces interim corporate director for legal and democratic services, Amanda Kelly.
Edila said she had been persuaded to move by the opportunity to take part in the regeneration programmes in the borough’s estates, as well as the chance to work on the London Olympics. A £355m media centre for the games is being built in Hackney Wick.
