Forget the prospect of Easter eggs and hot cross buns.
Allen & Overy (A&O), along with magic circle rivals, Freshfields and Linklaters, has revealed a bumper-sized package of new partners. No doubt Clifford Chance associates will be holding out for Champagne and caviar as they lick their lips in anticipation of their own promotions round coming up.
At A&O, it’s the corporate team, for so long the focus of much forlock-tugging (and some outright hostility), that has finally managed more promotions than its more exalted banking counterpart. See story.
The victory puts the gloss on a splendid year for A&O’s corporate team. It has been transformed from internal whipping boy to shining beacon with a string of high-profile mandates, not least as co-counsel to ABN Amro in what could be an £80bn merger with Barclays.
Now that really could buy one heck of a Champagne-flavoured Easter egg.
