Wilson Sonsini boosts Manhattan with Akin Gump raid

Palo Alto firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati has raided US rival Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld to bolster its New York office with the hire of two senior partners, including its co-chair of antitrust.

Jonathan Jacobson and Charles Biggio join the West Coast giant’s New York office as partners, bolstering the Manhattan team to six partners.

Jacobson has been with Akin Gump for 12 years, most recently as co-chair of antitrust. Prior to joining Akin Gump he was a lawyer with Coudert Brothers.

Biggio has been with Akin Gump since 1998. He was previously acting deputy assistant attorney general for merger enforcement at the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division.

The hires come as the Wilson Sonsini tries to turnaround last year’s disappointing performance, when it failed to keep pace with the growth of the New York and Washington DC elite.

The West Coast firm dropped eight spots to rank 54th in the 1004/05 AmLaw 100 after reporting a 1 per cent drop in gross revenue to $377.5m (£214.9m).
