The Lawyer revealed (22 June) that 20 Essex Street and Essex Court Chambers were considering taking space in the Singapore International Arbitration Centre after being invited by the Singaporean government.
20 Essex Street has now decided to have a permanent base in the jurisdiction. Barrister David Lewis will relocate to Singapore as part of the set’s plan to become a leading player in the Asian arbitration market.
“Traditionally English advocates have stuck to London, but you have to take the long-term view and look at whether there’s more work to be had abroad,” Lewis said.
The set counts Michael Moser, who is widely considered a leading Asia arbitrator having been chair of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, as a member.
