At a recent speech given at the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre’s first anniversary, the former attorney general Lord Goldsmith reminisced about his early days as a lawyer.

After setting up his own pro bono legal advice centre for teenagers in Bethnal Green, Goldsmith decided he had to find a way to get down with the local kids.

“Our idea was that I wouldn’t frighten these teenagers by coming in a lawyer’s suit and tie with a briefcase, but come in jeans as a helper at the weekly disco,” he explained.

If the thought of Goldsmith in jeans doing a spot of ‘sad dad’ dancing is not enough to make you laugh, try the image of him DJing. Yes, that’s right, Goldsmith turned his hand to the wheels of steel.

Now we know who inspired Tony to pick up a guitar.
