MoFo adds govt IT team to DC office

The new practice is being launched by a team of lawyers joining from rival Piper Marbury Rudnick & Wolfe. Partners Stan Soya and Rick Vacura are moving to MoFo with senior associate Holly Emrick Svetz, who joins as of counsel.
The new practice group will advise technology companies in their bids to secure work from the government. The firm says that the government's information technology budget for next year is $49bn (£33.72bn).

“Government contracting is one of the strongest growth areas for the Washington region”
Brian Busey, MoFo

MoFo's Northern Virginia office managing partner Brian Busey said: “With the slowdown in some sectors of our economy, government contracting has emerged as one of the strongest growth areas for the Washington metropolitan region. But government business transactions can present significant challenges for companies that do not recognise and manage the differences between government and commercial business.”
At Piper Marbury, Soya and Vacura focused on litigation and counselling on domestic and international government contracts, particularly for aerospace, telecoms and electronics companies.
