Weightmans has been appointed as adviser to Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) – the largest housing association in the North-West city.
The firm was one of eight Liverpool-based advisers invited to tender at the end of March.
Weightmans has assembled a team of 19 lawyers across six departments to advise on housing management issues, with input from teams including commercial litigation, contracts, employment, health and safety and housing management.
Property litigation partner Sîan Evans is the lead partner and is being assisted by partners Michael Green, Stuart Jones, David Lewis, David Percival and Ian Vicary.
Evans said tackling antisocial behaviour is likely to figure high on the agenda.
“The ethos of LMH is to preserve social housing in the long term and to improve people’s lives,” she added.
LMH took over 15,500 homes from Liverpool City Council when the entity was created as a registered social landlord on 1 April this year. It is one of the largest tenant-led housing associations in the UK.
Trowers & Hamlins advised LMH on the transfer of housing stock from the council and will be retained for the next 12 months on governance issues.
The Weightmans app – ointment is for an initial three years, with the possibility of an extension for an additional 12 months.
