Maclay Murray promotes four to partner

Scottish firm Maclay Murray & Spens has made up four to the partnership, with half the promotions taking place in its London office.

London-based associates Guy Norfolk and Chris Vause joined the partnership in the corporate and banking groups respectively.

In Edinburgh, corporate lawyer Brian Moore and property specialist Alan Stewart were made up.

Chief executive Magnus Swanson said: “As a firm committed to profitable growth, it is particularly significant that half of these lawyers joined us as trainees.

“From a strategic viewpoint, the appointments cover all of our geographical locations and a good range of our departments.”

The firm also promoted 10 to associate level, with five of those in Edinburgh, two in Glasgow and three in London.

The Scottish firm has pledged to expand its presence in the City, appointing London partner Philip Skerrett as chairman in April 2007.

Earlier this year, Swanson announced he was looking for a merger partner to expand the London office (The Lawyer, 10 March 2008)
