The Law Society of Singapore has approved a plan to create an organisation similar to the Solicitors Pro Bono Group in London.

The new pro bono group will facilitate relationships between solicitors and people without access to justice.

The proposal was put together by Lovells, which has been working on the project for four months, and has already assembled a group of foreign lawyers and in-house counsel to take the organisation forward.

It is understood that law-yers from investment bank JP Morgan in Singapore are about to join the project.

The development of the pro bono plan is being led by Lovells Lee & Lee Singapore solicitor Charmaine Chow. Lovells pro bono coordinator Yasmin Waljee is overseeing the project from London.
