Jones Day Reavis & Pogue is continuing to expand its Asian practice by hiring Denton Wilde Sapte’s Asia senior partner Steven Goodman.

Goodman, a corporate specialist and also head of the Hong Kong office, has been the senior partner of the Asian practice since 2001. He has been a partner since 1996, and has also been a member of Dentons’ international partnership board.

The hire, first revealed on www.thelawyer.com/ lawyernews on 14 May, comes after Jones Day massively bulked up its Singapore office with the hire of around 15 lawyers from local firm Rajah & Tan, including one of the firm’s executive partners Sundaresh Menon. It has also hired Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe project finance partner Bruce Schulberg.

Goodman’s hire takes the number of partners in the firm’s Hong Kong office to eight. He will head the local M&A practice and return to full-time fee-earning work. At Dentons, it is thought that Goodman spent most of his time on management matters.

Dentons has replaced Goodman with local head of construction litigation Martin Downey, who has been based in the Hong Kong office since 1987. He will take over as managing partner of Hong Kong, although the role of Asian senior partner will not be filled.
