CIArb forms company for dispute resolution spin-off

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) has spun off its dispute resolution services into a new limited company in an effort to provide a distinction between its regulatory and provider roles.

CIArb’s move follows the Bar Council and the Law Society splitting their representative and regulatory duties into two separate bodies following the Clementi reforms.

The institute’s president Hew Dundas told The Lawyer that the decision to divide the regulatory function and dispute resolution service ensures that the arms are seen as totally independent of each other.

The launch of new company IDRS is also a response to an increase in demand for dispute resolution services, which could not be fully met while control remained with the institute.
