Clifford Chance is gearing up to target the Eastern European legal market by launching an office in Bucharest.
The three-partner office has been opened through an association with Romanian law firm Badea & Asociatii.
Badea was founded in 2002 to service major international investors into Romania, focusing on cross border banking and finance, capital markets, corporate M&A and real estate transactions.
The office will continue to be overseen by partner Daniel Badea, managing partner of Badea & Asociatii.
However, managing partner of Clifford Chance’s Warsaw office, Nick Fletcher, will be a partner in the associated firm and be responsible for the integration of Bucharest team within the Clifford Chance network.
It is understood that the two firms have previously acted alongside each other on several transactions. Clifford Chance already has offices in Budapest, Moscow, Prague and Warsaw.
Clifford Chance regional managing partner Michael Cuthbert said the move reflected the firm’s intention to “strengthen our Central and Eastern European practice” and would enable the firm to better service the emerging South East European markets.
Badea specialises in banking and finance and capital markets and is regularly involved in infrastructure work. He will be supported by 22 fee earners and partner Nadia Georgescu, who specialises in corporate, private equity and real estate.
