Mobile phone operator 3 has created the new role of head of competition and regulatory, hiring Simmons & Simmons senior associate Jane Jellis to lead the group.
Jellis will work on 3’s relationships with media and telecoms regulator Ofcom, as well as coordinating all competition work.
Stephen Lerner, general counsel for 3, said: “Competition and regulation is a key focus for the legal team. The business is focused on looking to challenge the industry on behalf of the consumer. This industry is heavily regulated and for too long the other operators haven’t been challenged.”
Lerner added that the move could mean less work for Baker & McKenzie – the company’s go-to firm for competition work.
3 has also hired former Olswang ;competition lawyer Tom Roberts to replace Mark Warrington, who left to join gaming company Betfair. Roberts will report to Jellis.
