THE BBC has commissioned afly-on-the-wall documentary series on two barristers’ chambers in London and Birmingham, The Lawyer can reveal.
The programme is expected to be in a similar vein to the ‘docusoap’ Traffic Cops, where police were shadowed during their daily working routine.
The series, which will be a BBC Bristol production, will follow barristers in two chambers, in London and Birmingham, over the next 18 months.
The BBC commission comes eight months after the Bar Council gave the concept of such a show its seal of approval at its annual general meeting.
Stephen Hockman, the then chair of the Bar Council, said a BBC documentary series would give an unprecedented opportunity to educate the public about the bar.
He added that it would also give the bar the opportunity to present its case on the issues facing the profession.
