DWF has appointed Jonathan Edwards as its national head of banking. He joins from Hammonds, where he had headed the firm’s Manchester office since 2007 and before that was head of its banking practice.

Edwards is experienced in all aspects of banking law from leveraged finance and asset-based lending through to property finance. Managing ­partner Andrew Leaitherland said: “It’s encouraging to see that DWF continues to attract senior people from our ­competitors, as they clearly recognise our strength and ­continued growth within the sector.”



Kingsley Napley has hired two associates from Shepherd and Wedderburn for its ­criminal and regulatory department. Ben Kemp specialises in public and administrative law as well as professional discipline, while Julie ­Matheson specialises in regulatory work.

A&L Goodbody has announced the ­appointment of Peter Walker as the resident ­partner of its London office and Sheena Doggett as head of its corporate desk. Walker is a partner in the banking and financial services department, while Doggett is a partner in the firm’s corporate team and will divide her time between London and Dublin. Julian Yarr, who has headed the London office since 2004, returns to Dublin, where he will take over as firmwide managing partner from 1 May 2010.

Bristows has promoted intellectual property lawyer Paul Jordon to its partnership. He is set to play a role in the development of the advertising, marketing and promotion practice.

Penningtons Solicitors has announced that Nicole Curtis, a barrister specialising in ­professional regulation, has been made partner. Curtis, who was previously an associate with ­Penningtons’ professional regulation team, is one of the first barristers to take up the position of partner within a law firm.

Bindmans has promoted associate Siobhan Kelly to partner, bringing the firm’s total ­number of partners to 15. She has experience in personal injury claims, including road accidents, occupiers’ liability and accidents at work.

Collyer Bristow has hired new corporate partner Jeff Roberts, who has joined the ­company commercial team in London. He was previously head of business services at Collins Benson Goldhill.

Dawsons has announced that Sarah Rushton has joined the firm as a partner in its ­employment department. She joins from Forsters, where she set up and headed the firm’s employment practice as a solicitor.


TLT has promoted six solicitors to associate. They are: Claire Gibson in the banking and asset finance team; Halim Khan and Nathalie Young in the banking and financial services litigation team; Catrin Lucas in the employment team; Peter Naylor in the corporate finance team; and commercial litigator Helen Thomas.

Memery Crystal has taken on Sean Rush as a partner in its oil and gas team. He joins from Petro-Canada UK, where he was general ­counsel. The firm has also taken on Lucie ­Brackenbury as an assistant in its corporate department. She joins the firm from Dechert, where she was also an assistant solicitor.

Ashfords Solicitors has welcomed new ­partner Mark Northey to its projects and PFI team. He joins the firm after 15 years at DLA Piper in Qatar, Dubai and London.

Michelmores has taken on Neil Northmore as a partner in its commercial team. He joins from SeaRegs, where he was a partner, and will be responsible for establishing the marine and sports department for the firm.


Birketts has announced the appointment of Madeleine Jefferies as a newly qualified solicitor in its property litigation team. She joined the firm in September 2008 as a trainee.


Beachcroft has appointed Khurram Shamsee as a partner in its employment and pensions team. Khurram joins the team from Baker & McKenzie and sits on the Employment Lawyers’ Association (ELA) Training Committee. ­Meanwhile, the firm has also taken on Andrew Lightburn and Billy Greensides as solicitors. ­Lightburn joins the firm from Shulmans and Greensides has moved from Eversheds.

Blacks Solicitors has welcomed new associate Ian Scobbie to the firm. He joins from Godloves, where he spent 17 years as head of its commercial litigation and insolvency practice.

MKB Solicitors has expanded its employment team with the appointment of Sally Osborn, who has been appointed as a solicitor in the firm’s employment team having completed her training contact with MKB. Additionally, newly ­qualified Ben McFeely joins the firm as an employment solicitor from Rollits in Hull. Simon Brian, who is partner and head of employment at the firm has also been promoted to the equity partnership.

Ingrams Solicitors has recruited employment lawyer Simon Holborn to its team. He specialises in a range of services, including personal injury work and medical negligence. Holborn joins the firm after closing his own practice Holborn & Co earlier this year.

Shulmans Solicitors has appointed Michael ­Watson as partner to head up its property litigation and risk management team. He joins from ­Chadwick Lawrence where he was a partner.


David Morgan, a partner at Harding Evans Solicitors for more than 17 years, has been sworn in as a district judge and will preside over cases in Bridgend and Cardiff County Courts. His role as a district judge will involve ruling over both civil disputes, including claims for compensation, property disputes and bankruptcy cases.

NewLaw Solicitors has appointed Nigel Mills as a new partner in its serious injuries team. Mills has 32 years experience of catastrophic injury work and joins from Reid Minty where he was a partner.

Winston & Strawn has announced that it has added commercial litigation partner Adrian Yip to its Hong Kong office. He joins from Orrick ­Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he was a partner, and is joined by three associates: Cliff Mok, Philip Kwok and Genevieve Ku. Mok focuses on ­commercial, intellectual property and white -collar crime disputes. Kwok’s practice concentrates on regulatory inquiries, commercial disputes and ­corporate liquidations. Meanwhile, Ku handles complex commercial and shareholder disputes, as well as the liquidation and administration of ­personal and business estates.
