Berwin Leighton's financial institutions team – including partner Michael Wilson – is defecting to Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, the leading firm in professional negligence.
Wilson is leaving after 22 years. He set up the team which handles insurance claims on behalf of financial institutions and banks.
Lyn Hassett, who took over as head of the team from Wilson a year ago, is also going.
A Berwin Leighton spokesman says: “It was not core business. [But] while it was there we were happy to have the business.”
He says the work the department handled will now be transferred to litigation partner Andrew Rose.
David Arthur, head of the professional liability and commercial litigation department at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, says Wilson will be joining the firm in December.
Berwin Leighton is taking on Candice Blackwood, commercial property partner at Maxwell Batley, as a partner.
