Threadneedle Investments has lost its legal chief to the asset management arm of Barclays Bank.
Tom O’Connor has joined Barclays Global Investors (BGI) as head of legal for Europe. In his new role, O’Connor will report to Duncan Walker, BGI’s head of products, services and regulatory affairs, Europe.
O’Connor joined Threadneedle, which was sold off by Zurich Financial Services to American Express, in September 2002. He began his legal career at Nigel Harris & Partners, a UK firm based in Jersey. In October 1997 he moved to the private client department at Allen & Overy.
In 2000, O’Connor secured his first in-house position at Aldgate Capital followed by a stint at Henderson Global Investors.
Threadneedle has promoted O’Connor’s deputy Mark Cooper to head the company’s in-house function.
BGI, which is one of the largest fund managers in the world, manages $1.4tr (£800bn) of assets for more than 2,600 clients.
Cooper did not return calls for comment.
