The Law Society has launched a public affairs unit to be headed by new recruit Nicky Edwards.
Edwards was previously the head of public affairs at National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta) and General Social Care Council. She has been brought on board to manage four public advisors covering parliamentary liaison, speeches, briefings and stakeholder communications.
Edwards said her new team will add to the Law Society’s capacity to be the voice of a profession that is central to the success and well being of Britain in the 21st century.
“Public affairs are becoming increasingly important as expert knowledge is needed to inform public policy at the earliest stages of debate,” she said.
The news comes as Ofcom finance chief Rona Chester joins the Law Society as financial director and Bar Standards Board director Mark Stobbs becomes director of legal policy next month.
