Fried Frank opens in HK with Simmons raid

Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson has raided Simmons & Simmons for a second time, as the US firm launches its Hong Kong office.

Fried Frank has returned to Simmons for three partners and one associate following its September raid for five partners from Simmons’ Hong Kong and Shanghai offices, as reported on www.thelawyer. com (27 September). A final wave of associates is also expected to quit Simmons’ China offices for the US firm.

Fried Frank has also signed an association with new Hong Kong law firm Huen Wong & Co, which has been set up by new Fried Frank Hong Kong managing partner Huen Wong.

Fried Frank’s September raid included Wong, who was Simmons’ China regional managing partner, head of the China corporate group Stephen Mok, construction specialist Philip Nunn, real estate partner Raymond Kwok and Shanghai-based partner Mike Hickman.

Wong, Hickman and Kwok have now joined the firm as partners and have been joined by former Simmons corporate partners Victoria Lloyd and Leon Tsui. Mok and Nunn will join the Hong Kong office in early 2007 as partners and will be followed by former Simmons partner Joseph Lee and associate Gilbert Ho. Both join as partners.

Simmons has started to rebuild corporate since the first raid in September, taking on three corporate associates in its Hong Kong and Shanghai offices. It has also promoted two Hong Kong corporate associates to consultant status.
