It is good to see that the Judicial Studies Board is planning improvements to judicial training following Lord Woolf's proposals for judicial case management.
With judges taking a centre stage role in these proposals, it is essential that they are up to the task in hand. With little training currently available, this area needs to be addressed.
However, one cannot help but be sceptical that they will get funding for the level of training necessary. In the past the Lord Chancellor has not shown generosity in the distribution of funds. But despite what Lord Woolf proclaims, funds are necessary if his reforms are to take place.
