What was your first ever job?

Assistant to the general manager at the greyhound stadium in Wimbledon.

What was your worst experience as a trainee?

Being left to cope with a litigation matter without adequate assistance.

Where’s the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?

Steve, a paralegal – although now that he’s left, the staff room.

What time do you usually leave the office?

Between seven and eight.

What do you do at weekends?

My weekends are spent entertaining my children.

What’s your favourite restaurant?

ASK in Barnes.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?

Probably an academic, although it’s years since I’ve considered that question.

Who was your mentor or role model?

Too many to mention one in particular.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The combination of being a lawyer and running a business.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?

All the resources are human beings.

What’s your biggest work/career mistake and what did you learn from it?

I was overoptimistic and too trusting on a particular initiative. I have a tendency to be overoptimistic and I’ve learnt to temper it.

What car(s) do you drive?

Peugeot 406.

What book are you currently reading?

A biography of Cicero.

What’s on your CD player at the moment?

An album by Keane – my wife’s choice.

What’s your favourite children’s book?

Anything by Allan Ahlberg.
