South West-based law firm Ashfords has won a national tender by the London Borough of Wandsworth for litigation work.

The firm, based in Exeter, Plymouth and Bristol, secured the role after taking part in a competitive tender against a number of firms. Borough solicitor Martin Walker said: “We shortlisted seven firms but were interested in value for money and Ashfords had the most competitive tender as well as the promise of strong partner involvement.”

Under a five-year contract Ashfords will advise on employment, housing and civil litigation, judicial review, licensing, and criminal prosecutions.

Ashfords carries out national work at regional rates, a strategy they claim has won them a number of clients. David Beadel, litigation partner at Ashfords commented: “Winning this contract is further recognition of the strength of our public sector client base. We are pleased to have beaten our competitors and also to reap the rewards of our strategy and expertise.”

Malcolm Gilbert, public law partner, said: “This is our first major contract for a London borough and we are looking forward to the diverse range of work.”

Ashfords was created following the demerger of Bevan Ashford EPL and Bevan Ashford BBL in November 2004.
