We all know that Tulkinghorn comes from times long past, but today he shares with you a tale for modern London.
Cast your minds back to the recent Tube strike that caused chaos across the nation’s capital, forcing some commuters to walk distances of Dickensian proportions.
The reason for the strike was simple: the RMT wanted Tube operator Metronet to give “unequivocal guarantees” on members’ jobs and pensions. Enter Herbert Smith with the pension recovery package that would end the action.
The only problem was that when the Herbies team tried to deliver the good news to Transport for London’s Victoria headquarters, it couldn’t. There were no bloody Tubes running.
(It should be noted that Herbies’ pensions team took a taxi to Victoria and was in no way responsible for the strike going on long after the dispute had actually been resolved.)
