Choo said the move would enable him to build his career as a specialist real estate finance lawyer with international experience.
“Dechert offered me the opportunity to be a partner and saw me as integral to building the business,” he said.
Choo said it was important in making the decision to move across to consider that real estate is one of Dechert’s main practice areas.
“It enables me to develop what I was doing at Clifford Chance, which was high end complex real estate finance transactions,” he said.
Dechert’s head of European finance and real estate Ciaran Carvalho said Choo’s seven years at Clifford Chance would be invaluable in helping to develop the firm’s finance and real estate work internationally.
“As we look to do more international work we need more people with these skill sets to take us to the next level,” Carvalho said.
Choo will start at Dechert on a October. His appointment takes the number of real estate partners at the firm to 38, eight of which are in London.
Clifford Chance was unavailable for comment on Choo’s move.
