Helping solicitors in need (of a cab)

The US is all but in recession and times are most certainly tough. Only a few short weeks have passed since The Lawyer revealed that Clifford Chance London managing partner Jeremy Sandelson was taking a hard line when it comes to paying out for staff taxis (, 26 February), and now the magic circle firm is hosting an event for a society that bails out lawyers who are in dire financial straits.

The Solicitor’s Benevolent Association (SBA) is 150 years young this year and to mark the occasion it is holding a celebratory reception at the offices of none other than Clifford Chance. The association’s aim is to assist solicitors and their dependants who are in need and have no substantial assets to draw upon.

Perhaps it won’t be long before Clifford Chance’s associates, financially crippled from having to foot their own late-night taxi bills, are forced to call upon the SBA.
