Shaw Pittman shrugged off competition from RSA panel firms Ashurst Morris Crisp and Allen & Overy (A&O) to win its first instructions from the UK insurer. RSA used KLegal when it outsourced its desktop operations to IBM in 2001.
RSA will outsource the processing and administration of 2.4 million policies of its UK Life business to Unisys Insurance Services. A&O also missed out with client Unisys, which was advised by its in-house team. The firm did secure a minor role, advising RSA on pensions issues.
Abbey Life recommended Shaw Pittman to RSA, after the firm advised on the outsourcing of its life assurance claims administration to Unisys in 2000. Partner David Skinner led a team of six on the deal and he is hoping that the firm's work will earn a referral for the London office's fledgling corporate department.
Druces & Attlee advised Unisys on property issues and Travers Smith Braithwaite advised on pensions issues. Ashursts provided RSA with property advice.
