Tulkinghorn (The Lawyer, 11 March 1997) implies that those attending the recent conference at the Richmond Hill Hotel were the wealthy owners of upmarket cars.
As, regrettably, the owner of the BMW in question, I should point out that the poor old thing has its 10th birthday in April, 124,500 miles on its clock, a distinctly iffy gearbox and a value merely approaching, not reaching, four figures.
When trying to move it I saw the Volvo and Mercedes and would venture to suggest that Tulkinghorn would be loath to swap his staff car for either of them.
Still, if Tulkinghorn were to allow the facts to spoil a good story, we'd all be the poorer.
