2007 was a year of firsts for both the legal profession and for The Lawyer. Clifford Chance was struck by what’s thought to be the first discrimination claim against a law firm on the grounds of sexual orientation.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer became the first firm to face an age discrimination claim under the new Age Discrimination Act and Russell Jones & Walker was the first firm to publicly state its interest in using an alternative business structure, months before the Legal Services Act came into being.
Meanwhile, as The Lawyer celebrated its 20th anniversary, we launched six new products: The Lawyer HR Awards, The Lawyer Podcast, The Lawyer Video, The Lawyer UK 200 Annual Report, the redesigned TheLawyer.com, and associate editor Matt Byrne’s Byrne in the USA blog and transatlantic news coverage from New York.
Not a bad effort!
